Lifelong Learning Linguistics Onomastics
Onomastics is the study of the history, origin, meanings and usage of names; place names and personal names. Because names are often drawn from historical contexts in modern western society, and because place names often reflect the language of lost and conquered peoples, onomastics can be closely related to anthropological linguistics. My interest in names was probably the first indication of my general interest in linguistics. If I ever get my vast collection of names computerized, I may post them.
