Coding Tutorials and Examples

As part of my teaching, data analysis and my CDSE doctoral program, I do a lot of coding, and in a variety of languages.  I've picked up a bunch along the way, and am learning bits and pieces of more stuff as I go.  I've been collecting my own resources and examples for students for a while, and I've decided to post them and share them in one place. None of this is meant to be a comprehensive introduction to any language, but you never know what might be useful.

My attitude toward coding in general is usually along the lines of "quick and dirty".  If you are looking for elegance, that is not something you are likely to find here.  Most of the time, I'm really happy if I can get it to work.  You'll see a lot of the Python and MATLAB examples don't enclose work in self-contained programs, but just work in a "command line" format, but if you are comfortable writing programs and just need functionality, it's easy to see how to modify my examples to work in that type of setting.  I do this so that my students (or myself) can get to a solution with minimal introduction.

Some of the tutorials, particularly for MATLAB, were written for courses I was teaching as "labs".  You will see some overlap, but they are meant to be done in sequence.  Examples and solutions to the problems included are available.  Other tutorials were written as a review for a course I was taking, and needed to collect information in one place. Those involve more languages or operating systems, and are also targeted for specific goals related to that course.

Some of the examples I just collected as an example for myself, so I didn't have to scour the internet later for something I was using regularly enough to reuse, but not frequently enough to memorize.

Some of the examples are just things I picked up in courses I was taking, or work I was doing, that I found particularly interesting.

Among the languages you'll find here include:

I'll add more as time goes on.

I also have a short playlist for HTML coding here.
