Planets

Mercury

Mercury is the closest planet to the sun, and since it goes around the sun the fastest, it was given the name of the messenger god in the Roman pantheon.  Mercury is generally hard to see with the naked eye because it comes up just before dawn, or just after sunset, and is very close to the sun.  It's smaller size and greater distance from us, together with being closer to the glare of the sun, make it harder to pick out than Venus.
