Planets

Earth

Not too surprisingly, since we live here, we know more about Planet Earth than any of the other planets.  It's been studied in far more detail, and whole fields of science like geology and atmospheric sciences are based almost entirely on what we know close up about what happens on this planet.  Especially, any discussion of life.

If thought of in this larger context, of Earth as a planet, it's impossible to separate the study of the Earth from the study of the other planets.  We can't just build planets out of whole cloth and wait a couple billion years to see what happens in order to run experiments.  However, we do have experiments running right now: the other planets.  The variables are confounding, but with careful study, we can tease out new information about how we got here, and where we are going.
