Lifelong Learning Astronomy Planets Smaller objects from the Outer Solar System
The outer solar system beyond Neptune is divided into two regions: the Kuiper Belt, and beyond that, the Oort Cloud. It is thought that comets originate in this region of the solar system; disturbed by collisions or the gravity of other objects, they are sent into the inner solar system. Most of the so-called "dwarf planets" are KBOs or Kuiper Belt Objects.
